Battling with your physical situation or a loved one’s high cholesterol levels is easy with high cholesterol diet recipes that won’t rob the joy out of food. Thanks to the increasing awareness of people to become more fit and healthy in order to avoid debilitating diseases, chefs and food lovers alike have whipped up easy-to-cook, low cholesterol meals that pack in a lot of flavor. If you are skeptical but want to become more healthy, you can actually incorporate key ingredients they use to your own recipes to lower your cholesterol. Here’s a short and simple guide to become more healthy and eliminate saturated fat in a delicious way.
Adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle is now easier to achieve with the wealth of creative minds who sought to contribute in eliminating dangerous levels of cholesterol in our system. Science and the creative minds from the culinary world have taken notice of the prevailing disease of high cholesterol levels in people. In United States alone, an estimated half of the entire American population is suffering from high cholesterol. Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. Diet recipes that are tasty and delicious and, more importantly, contain no saturated fats are now a must, not a mere option for most families.
Here’s a list of key ingredients you should use in your diet recipes, to combat high cholesterol:Garlic: Garlic contains allicin, which gives the garlic’s distinct smell and is actually very good for your blood. Allicin helps in reducing your cholesterol, prevents blood clots, and helps your blood from becoming too sticky, which contributes to even more problems for high cholesterol sufferers. Experts advice a daily intake of a maximum of three cloves of fresh garlic for about two to six months.
Prunes: Prunes are packed with pectin, a soluble fiber which absorbs the cholesterol in your intestines even before it travels through your bloodstream. Use prunes generously on your fresh salad as substitute for other sweeteners in your high cholesterol diet recipes, and even just as a snack option for you or a loved one.
Fish and Chicken: Fish in particular is low in fat and packed with protein. The way you cook it makes a difference. Poultry should be skinless and removed of any visible fats. Pan-broiled, stir-fried (non-stick pan), baked, and roasted are the better option instead of the usual deep-frying methods. Regardless of your health, you should never eat fried foods, but especially if you have high cholesterol, no matter how good it tastes. Fish and most seafood are rich in healthy polyunsaturated fats. Omega-3 which helps lower the risks of heart disease in most people is found in some fatty fish such as trout and salmon. Instead of frying fish, you can poach, bake, broil, and steam it along with a fresh squeeze of lemon juice or your own choice of fresh herbs.
Other main ingredients you should stock up on for high cholesterol diet recipes are: whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and legumes. It is crucial that you eat a variety of foods. The more colorful and fresh it is due to the mix of vegetables and fruits, the better. Remember, the most powerful nutrition strategy you could make when it comes to high cholesterol, and diet recipes is to eat in moderation and choosing freshly cooked meals over processed fast food and junk foods.

Everyone looks forward to Christmas dinner throughout the year, but if you have grown a bit bored of the typical turkey, stuffing and garlic roast potato meal, why not try an alternative dinner this year? There are loads of Christmas style recipes that you can try, and you may even find one that you enjoy so much you want to use it for years to come.
One of the main things to remember when deciding an alternative Christmas dinner is that, if you have guests coming, you will need to ensure that they like the sound of your new meal as well. Serving up an exotic alternative for people that are expecting a nice big turkey could surprise them quite a bit, so let them know what you are planning well in advance.
Deciding on your alternative Christmas meal really comes down to your and your guests’ tastes. Because you will probably end up putting so much effort into the cooking of the meal you should aim for something that you are certain everyone will like, so that you don’t waste any food and miss out on a delicious meal.
If you still want to go for a meat based meal, consider switching the turkey for a different kind of meat. An obvious choice would be a chicken, although a lot of people eat roasted chicken for Sunday lunch and so it isn’t especially alternative. Instead, look out for a big beef joint at the supermarket that you can slow roast with some aromatic herbs such as rosemary and thyme.
You could always serve fish as the centrepiece of your Christmas meal. Roasted monkfish would go down a treat, especially if served with sage and onion stuffing and seasonal vegetables on the side. You can buy everything you need for this meal from your local supermarket, and monkfish is available all year round.
If you would like to go vegetarian for your Christmas meal there are more than enough recipes to choose from. Many people assume that vegetarian meals will be boring and tasteless, but they can actually be incredibly delicious. Try making a nut roast and including chestnut puree to give it a moist texture and a unique flavour. You could also try making a pie and there are a number of fillings to pick from, such as mushroom and ale, pumpkin, cheese and potato or cheese and onion.

In the real world of food, meal-planning and diet, convenience often trumps nutrition. We microwave our dinners instead of making them from scratch. We grab cans of vegetables instead of making our way to the produce aisle to buy them fresh. It is as though we are always making decisions and sacrifices in the apparently constant battle between health and time.
Seafood is often the food group to most suffer in this time-crunch reality. However, it doesn’t have to be. Alaska-Surimi Seafood is a great option for health-conscious but busy people. Real seafood made with genuine Alaska Pollock (a fish that is a member of the Cod family), Alaska-Surimi Seafood can save both time and money.
This economical option is MSG-free. It comes in a wide array of options and may be flavored with crab, shrimp, scallops and/or lobster, meaning choice and variety. Alaska-Surimi Seafood is pre-cooked and therefore ready to use in recipes calling for shellfish flavor. There are no bones or shells to remove – meaning no waste of time or food. It brings the delicious taste and important nutritional benefits of shellfish to the dinner table at an accessible and affordable price.
Moderate in texture and flavor, this low-fat seafood option is available whole, in chunks or shredded. Alaska-Surimi Seafood is stored frozen and generally simply thawed in order to serve. It is a great addition to salads, sandwiches, soups and pastas and can be prepared in various manners to be served as a part of several types of dishes.
Consumers of this easy and delicious seafood option will not miss out on the nutritional benefits generally attributed to the consumption of fish and other creatures of the sea. One serving of Alaska-Surimi Seafood offers 15 grams of protein and just 30 milligrams of cholesterol. Moreover, it clocks in at just under 100 calories (great news for those of us who are conscious of our waistlines).
